New elephant house

The new house for the African elephants (Loxodonta africana) covers a total area of 435 m2, and the animals can go in and out as they please. It is surrounded by glass, letting natural light in and enabling visitors to see inside.
Inside the house are the two bedrooms, each measuring 120 m2, and a perimeter circuit of about 2.5 metres wide to allow the keepers to move about.
The new house includes the very latest requirements for this type of facility: heating, mobile feeders, enrichment elements, sand for sleeping and the utmost facilities and safety guarantees for the keepers.

The warthogs move into their new home

  • The new home for the warthogs (Phacochoerus africanus), in the central area of the Zoo, has a large patio covering 750 m2, with sand, trees and trunks and a mud pit. It is surrounded by an artificial stone wall with two large windows through which visitors can watch these animals right up close.
The bedrooms, measuring some 60 m2, also have a large window for watching the animals when they are inside.
There are presently two females and two young of this African relative of the boar living in the house, and they will soon be joined by a male.
