Educational programmes

At the Barcelona Zoo, we provide an educational programme to post secondary school students, which is designed especially for students at this level. Through these activities, students can deepen knowledge about the animals and learn about the large number of species of flora and fauna at the Zoo.

The Barcelona Zoo reserves the right to change or cancel scheduled activities if there are not enough participants or if an incident occurs justifying such action.

ALL POST SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAMMES:

Catalan Fauna Workshop

During this workshop, students learn about the main species present in our natural environment, through the representation of all groups of vertebrates in our country that are at the Barcelona Zoo.

Endangered Animals Workshop

Through this activity, students discover the main causes –either natural or caused by mankind– that have led to many animals being in danger of extinction.

Animal Behaviour Workshop

The collection of animals at our Zoo includes solitary and gregarious species, with innate and learned behaviours that have different levels of complexity that allow students to learn more about their behaviour.

How the Zoo Operates Workshop

Students are shown how modern zoos centre their purpose on the conservation of endangered species and education for preserving the environment.

Reproduction Workshop

Students learn about the different reproduction methods of the vertebrates and discover the strategies they employ to assure descendents by observing the collection of animals at our Zoo.

Feeding Workshop

Students will learn about the main types of food that vertebrates eat through viewing the animal collection at our Zoo, which is comprised of herbivores, carnivores, piscivores, insectivores, frugivores, filter feeders and omnivores.

Animal Adaptations Workshop

This visit is designed to introduce students to knowledge about adaptation characteristics and strategies of animals in order to survive in a specific environment.

The Birds Workshop

This activity introduces the main characteristics of birds through the Zoo’s bird collection, which includes representative species from the five continents. They will have the unique opportunity to study and work with exotic and autochthonous birds.

Animal Evolution Workshop

Students will work on the changes experienced by living beings over the course of time by observing and studying the complete collection of animals at our Barcelona Zoo.

We the Primates Workshop

The complete collection of primates at our Zoo lets representatives of the most important families in this order be studied. Students will then reflect on their relationship to the human species.

Research Project Workshop

The Barcelona Zoo has designed a course with the aim of advising students and helping them focus and do their research projects.
