The Animal Feeding Workshop at the Zoo teaches students about the different types of feed, the strategies and adaptations adopted by vertebrates to this end, in an entertaining manner that is adapted to their ages.

  1. Short presentation with slides of animals that are representative of the different types of feeding.
  2. Observation and handling of different objects coming from animals in our collection.
  3. Guided tour by a Zoo educator (biologist) of the Zoo to learn more about the following contents:
    • Introduction to the different types of mouths, beaks and teeth, depending on how they feed.
    • Explanation of the characteristics of cud-chewing, or ruminant, animals.
    • Observation of teeth not connected to feeding: elephant defences.
    • Survival strategies in periods when there isn't food: migration, hibernation, accrual of food in their own body or in hiding places.
    • Study of different strategies to obtain food.
