To get the most out of the Catalan Fauna Workshop, we suggest studying the following aspects at school before the visit:
To understand the students’ interests and increase motivation about the animals:
- Look for information (photos, magazine articles, cards, worksheets, videos, CDs or other materials on electronic support) about wild species of our fauna.
- Look for information (photos, magazine articles, cards, worksheets, videos, CDs or other materials on electronic support) about urban species in our towns and cities (pigeons, seagulls, swallows, blackbirds, rats, beetles, etc.).
- Look for information (photos, magazine articles, cards, worksheets, videos, CDs or other materials on electronic support) about species of our fauna that are already extinct.
- Make a list in class where you write down and/or draw the things that the children want to know about the animals in our fauna. It is important to include urban animals: sparrows, swallows, mice, rats, beetles, etc.
- Put a box in the classroom where students can place the questions they may have at any time and later study them.
To observe animals:
- Take a field trip to find traces, listen to sounds and try to see animals in our natural and urban environment in our towns and cities.
- Make and hang bird feeders and baths to attract birds to the schoolyard.
- Ask students who have a pet to prepare, individually or in groups, an explanation about this animal to present to their classmates with the help of photographs or the animal itself.
As specific objectives:
- Status of different animals from our fauna: very frequent, frequent but hard to see, animals from endangered species.
- Knowledge of the large variety of animals in our natural environment.
