The Birds Workshop

The Birds Workshop teaches students about the main characteristics of birds, with teaching adapted to their age. 

Consta Students are first given a brief introduction in the classroom, during which they are shown slides of the main types of birds. Furthermore, the images reveal aspects that cannot be directly observed at the Zoo. They also have the chance to look at and handle different materials coming from animals in our collection. 

When leaving the classroom, the students are given a guided tour by a Zoo educator (biologist) around the grounds in order to learn more about the following contents: 

• Study the ways that birds move: swimming, flying and walking. Adaptations of the limbs.
• The different types of food: beak and claw adaptations.
• Bird habitats, unique adaptations, migrations.
• External layer and skin protection: study of feathers.
• Main sensory organs: sight and hearing.
• Classification: grouping by similarities and differences.
• Bird reproduction: oviparity, sexual dimorphism and nidification.
