Description

This gecko is diurnal and its colouring can vary depending on its body temperature and activity. It can be very colourful with extremely bright blue and turquoise tones and can measure up to 28-cm long.
They inhabit the dry and thorny forests of southwest Madagascar, spending the majority of time high in the trees and sharing its territory with its mate.
They are omnivorous and opportunistic, feeding on insects and other invertebrates and small vertebrates, as well as fruits, pollen and nectar.
The female tends to lay one or two eggs that are connected and hatch after a 50-70 day incubation period, varying depending on the environmental temperature. Hatchlings are multicoloured and obtain sexual maturity after one year.
Like many members of the Gekkonidae family, one of their most prized skills is their ease in climbing vertical surfaces, due to the pads of the toes having a series of strips covered with miniscule filaments (some 0.10 mm long) that let them grab onto any tiny roughness on the substratum. They can even walk along apparently smooth surfaces like window glass.
The most important danger that populations face are the deforestation and degradation of their habitat, which is happening very quickly on the entire island of Madagascar.
