The large area and the wide variety of climatic conditions of the Asian continent make it possible for a large number of very different animal and plant species to thrive there.

Fauna

The tiger –despite the fact that it is in danger of extinction-, the Asian elephant and wild monkeys, such as the gibbon and the orang-utan, originated in the south and south east of the continent. Species with hair live in the northern regions. Examples include the bear, the marten and the wolf. In the steppes and semi-arid regions there are antelopes, hares and numerous species of rodents. In the mountains of Tibet you can find wild sheep, goats and yaks. In general, throughout the continent there is an abundance of birds, snakes and crocodiles.

Flora

The Asian landscape ranges from arid desert to lush tropical jungle. In Siberia  tundra  (moss and lichen) and  taiga (fir and pine trees) predominate. In the south east and east there are perennial tropical forests, with species such as teak, eucalyptus, oak and various varieties of bamboo and palms.

Climate

The equatorial or tropical climate remains almost the same throughout the year and is strongly influenced by the ocean currents, with high temperatures, high humidity and abundant and regular rain. Even so, the western shores, situated on the leeward side, are more arid with less rain.<//font>
