The Zoo watches over the welfare of animals

17/05/2012

Veterinarians, keepers and all the staff of the Barcelona Zoo work for the wellbeing of animals and wildlife conservation. We are aware that some zoo enclosures need improvement and that is why we are working on a Strategic Plan as well as an investment  and maintenance programme. However, it must be said that the photographs and images recently published are decontextualized and do not correspond to reality. The Zoo is an institution open to the public and any citizen can confirm the wellbeing of our animals. Our mission and values are based on research, conservation and education towards the defence of the values of biodiversiy. The Zoo is a member of the international zoo network and as such meets all the standards established for animal welfare, and receives clear recognition for it. We will continue to work with enthusiasm for these values, which are bringing us success and professional acclaim. We respect all opinions, but we rate more highly our task in the education and conservation fields.
