Resolution of the process of evaluation of the projects presented to the 2011 official announcement for grants and financial support on the Research an Conservation Programme for the specific research projects proposed by externals.
Of a total number of 28 projects presented to the 2011 official announcement for Grants and Financial Support on the Research and Conservation Programme 2009-2011, and after the evaluation of the Assesment Committee of the Research and Conservation Programme of the Barcelona Zoo, following the criteria stablished in the rules of the call, the projects awarded are:
- A study of the indigenous fauna of Culicoides midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) of Barcelona Zoo
- The planaria of Barcelona and Girona: a contribution to the unknown Mediterranean biodiversity.
- Threats to the conservation of the southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) in the southern Atlantic due to commercial fishing.
- Study of the winter distribution of the Mediterranean gull (Larus melanocephalus) in the Gulf of Sant Jordi, its main wintering area in the world.
- Genetic characterisation of the Montseny brook newt (Calotriton arnoldi): Implications in the management and conservation of the species.
- “Passive Integrated Transponders” or “round-lipped rings” in the marking of Chiroptera in the wild and in captivity.
- Assessment of wellbeing indicators in gorillas through monitoring behaviour, emission of vocalisations and hormone levels.
- Study of the impact of climate change on marine organisms in Antarctic coastal environments.
- Viability of the adaptation of benthonic invertebrates resulting from the “by-catch” of trawl fishing in the Catalan Mediterranean and its possible uses. VIBAM.
- Conservation project in Ghana (Africa) of the white-naped mangabey (Cercocebus atys lunulatus), in collaboration with West African Primate Conservation Action and Wildlife Division.
- Impact of pollution on the biodiversity of the Sunderbans, the largest mangrove swamp in the world.
- Luambe Conservation Project.
