Institution: CCSC (Communities for Conservation Society Cologne)
Description:
The CCSC is a German NGO founded in 2002 with the aim of helping the maintenance, protection and development of the Luambe National Park in Zambia as part of a regional biodiversity conservation programme through community development and the eradication of poverty, and therefore to create a sustainable model for the future that benefits both animals and humans.
Ecotourism is another important feature of this project.
The central priority of the project is to favour conservation through demographic studies of the present situation of the fauna and to support the improvement to the living conditions of the rural population in the area thanks to sustainable tourism. Through job creation and educational measures, the aim is to achieve a rational use of natural resources that will allow a sustainable relationship to be established between the conservation of the environment and the local communities.
Basic aspects in helping recover wildlife in the area are complete knowledge of the animal populations, their movements and the threats that they face, along with the needs of the local population. The future strategy to be pursued will also include integrating the Luambe National Park into a cross-border protected area that embraces the whole of the Luangwa valley.
In order to promote research in the Luambe National Park, the CCSC will carry out a PVA (population viability analysis), an HVA (habitat viability analysis) and a demographic study of the demands, needs and populations of the different species of fauna and how to preserve it.
