Research at the Zoo

Barcelona Zoo must be a key part in the city’s biodiversity conservation policies, and an important tool for research and dissemination of information. Indeed, research is one of the most important tools for ensuring species conservation; it must therefore be one of the priority objectives for zoos.

Transforming Barcelona Zoo requires setting up new areas of collaboration between the scientific community and the Zoo. So, the Zoo’s decision to assign a specific budget for research activities marks an important turning point - one that will give extra impetus to the institution's research activities and enable it to achieve the objectives proposed by international associations, both at European and global levels.

Barcelona Zoo’s Research and Conservation Programme has been developed in accordance with the guidelines established by EAZA's Research Committee, while aiming simultaneously to meet the demands of our society.
