Specific research programmes
The specific programmes are individual research projects that have a defined duration, at the end of which conclusions will be reached and published in a scientific magazine. They must include a title, a main researcher, concrete objectives, methodology, an area of work and an evaluation of the costs as well as the proposed form of financing.
The transformation planned under the new Barcelona Zoo model - which is based on there being two different sites - represents a clear commitment to two closely related aspects: research and conservation.
This qualitative step-change involved in Barcelona Zoo's New Model needs to be reflected also in the specific research programmes, with defined durations and in collaboration with different operators. Therefore, it will need to find sources of financing that will enable it to establish lines of research that are aimed at conserving those species linked with the habitats represented at Barcelona Zoo. In situ research and working together with native populations will be required.
Certain lines of research may be related to programmes that arise from the management and handling of the animals in the collection as well as the conditions of Barcelona Zoo's environment.
