The Zoo and the Environmental Policies of the City

Barcelona approved the Citizen Commitment to Sustainability - Agenda 21 Barcelona on July 9, 2002. This was the culmination of four years of hard work to diagnose, make proposals and reach a consensus on the main objectives we had to meet in order to move towards a more sustainable city.

Since its creation in 2002, the Citizen Commitment to Sustainability has resulted in a range of environmental and social advances in areas as diverse as energy, educational, water management, social welfare and public health.

The Citizen Commitment to Sustainability of Agenda 21 Barcelona seeks, as its main goal, to promote open spaces, biodiversity and expand green urban areas.

As a signer of the agreement, the Barcelona Zoo has created its own Action Plan for 2009-2012, which clearly specifies the objectives and actions for this period.
