Description

The Green Team at the Barcelona Zoo was formed on March 8, 2007 by those responsible for the Zoo, as well as many of its workers. The team’s initial goal was to create a way to participate in the development of sustainability-related activities at the Zoo. In fact, the establishment of the Green Team is one of the actions set out in the Barcelona Zoo’s Action Plan as a basic tool for carrying out the plan itself and other projects related to sustainability.

The Zoo’s Green Team is an open, multidisciplinary group, composed of volunteers who are deeply concerned with environmental issues and who reflect all professions. Members are employed by the Zoo, as well as its service providers.

The Green Team seeks to have an impact on employees’ daily tasks, the internal dynamics of the Zoo and society as a whole through the public who visit the Zoo daily.Since the signing of the Commitment towards Sustainability - Agenda 21 in Barcelona, the authors of the Action Plan and its coordinator, have encouraged all Zoo staff members to participate. Thanks to the contributions of various heads of departments and staff members involved in drafting the Barcelona Zoo Action Plan, it is considerably ambitious.

The willingness of the individuals who oversee the Zoo, and support from employees workers who support the plan and who carry out initiatives that promote sustainability – along with the enthusiasm of many staff members working in this area - led to the creation of the Green Team.

Objectives

The Green Team has the following objectives. To:

Provide specific proposals to facilitate the implementation of the Action Plan for the sustainability at the Zoo and help identify problems as they arise.
