Promoting sustainable practices in the educational activities of the Zoo
Objective
To include content and other elements related to sustainability in the broadest sense, in the educational activities of the Zoo.
Actions
This project comprises a series of actions. To start, a solar cooking workshop has been included in the summer daycamps to increase awareness of non-polluting alternative energies. Together with the Department of Education, we have organized the "Nights at the Zoo" initiative for the BioDiverCiutat program of the Jane Goodall Institute Spain, based at the Barcelona Zoo. In this activity, three groups of families, some 70 people, learned about some of the wildlife that live or spend part of their time in the Zoo, a safe haven for urban wildlife (in April 2008 there were four "Nights at the Zoo” scheduled). The first night featured as participant of honour Professor Edward O. Wilson, winner of the Catalonia International Prize 2007. This educational activity is made possible thanks to the work of the Green Team groups dedicated to biodiversity.
