Protection of amphibians at the Zoo
Objective
Protect, enhance and restore amphibian populations living at the Zoo, with special emphasis on the common frog (Rana perezi), the tree frog (Hyla arborea) and the midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans).
Actions
Within the framework of this project, a series of actions are carried out, including the evaluation of existing species at the Zoo and their status. This allows the identification of a common species (common frog), a rare species (common midwife toad) and two very rare species (common toad and tree frog). It also has led to the rescue of tadpoles from Palmora Lake (an area affected by construction) and their relocation elsewhere in the park. This project is conducted in coordination with the Zoo Collection Department and Garden Division for the protection of certain areas.
