Waste management
Objective
To collaborate in promoting waste reduction and carry out proper disposal through the selective collection.
Actions
Here are some of the actions being carried out under this project:
- Support for the implementation of selective waste collection at the animal facilities, where this was not done before (packaging, cardboard / paper, organic waste): information and awareness of staff, protocol development, container placement, participation in discussions with waste managers, starting with specific waste collection, such as pallets, wooden fruit boxes, light bulbs and fluorescent-and improving the collection of batteries.
- Support for the correct separation of different types waste from the entire Zoo, which has permitted the launch of a real waste recycling process with resulting environmental and economic benefits.
- Actions in the staff dining room. Replacement of individual oil packages with oil dispensers in the staff dining room; return to reusable utensils in the dining room, reducing the use of paper towels (a reduction of 50 percent starting in June), and elimination of plastic bags for silverware (36,000 per year approx.)
- Pick-up service for home cooking oil provided by personnel of the restaurant concession.
- Informative slogan and awareness in the Ambilim vehicle, which carries out part of the collection of waste that is produced by the public throughout the Zoo.
