The hunting of wild animals for the illegal trading of meat threatens biodiversity and increases the risk of transmitting zoonotic diseases, such as Ebola. In Uganda, there is limited information on the species subjected to poaching, patterns of contact with the hunting communities and with the sales points for that meat.

The main objective of this project is to investigate the primate species that are hunted and sold illegally. For this reason, various sampling points will be selected around the protected areas (National Parks) and samples of the meat will be obtained from various establishments and highways that provide this type of food to customers and travellers passing by. The animal species the meat comes from will be determined by DNA analysis.
