Spaces in the Zoo
The Aquarama is the exhibit where the sea lions live at the Barcelona Zoo.
The Aquarama was built by Antoni Riera i Clavillé—designer of other facilities on the grounds—between 1964 and 1968, following the architectural model at the Zurich Zoo. It is a large circular water tank three stories high that holds nearly 2.5 million litres. Reforms have been made in recent years, modernising the water tank, the central beach where the caretakers work and the water jets and streams.
Besides the sea lion pool, the first floor of the Aquarama houses diverse sea aquariums with fish and invertebrates representative of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
