We Work by Projects Workshop

What are reptiles like? What are the characteristics of jungles? And deserts? If you have been working on learning about the environment through a specific project and you’ve got lots of questions, we can help you! Depending on your needs and interests, and starting from the animals present in the Zoo’s biodiversity and with the expert vision of our educators, we will guide and work with you, and students will—more than ever—have to use their senses to discover and resolve their questions and interests... Discover nature at the Zoo via your own projects.

Duration : 1.5 hours

Start times : 10:00 am - 11:30 am - 13:00 pm

To get the maximum benefit from the We Work by Projects Workshop at the Zoo, we recommend that you do some work at school on the following aspects before taking the workshop, both by talking about experiences and in other areas (plastic, body expression, oral and written expression, maths, etc.).

 

To understand the students’ interests and increase motivation about the animals:

  • Decide which animal or animals you want to work with.
  • Draw the selected animal and find out what students want to know about it.
  • Collect books, stories, songs, photos, cards, worksheets or other materials about the animals that the children can obtain.

 

To observe animals:

  • Have the students look at animals in the wild, whether they are sparrows, pigeons or swallows in the schoolyard or others seen on outings to the forest or countryside.

 

As specific objectives:

  • Recognise the noticeable aspects about the animals: differences in size and shape of the animal selected compared to other animals.
  • Identification of the animal’s different body parts and their functions.
  • Understanding of the idea of wild animal.

When reaching the Education Department, the class group will be welcomed by the Zoo educator (biologist), who will then accompany the children to the preschool classroom. 
 

There will then be a presentation in the classroom about how the activity works and about the animal or animals they will be working with. 
Through a slide show and a short representative video, students study what the animals are like, where and how they live, what they eat, how they’re born and the diversity of the animal in question. They will also be shown biological material so that they can experiment the morphology and movement of certain parts of the animal's body. 
 

Depending on the animal selected, games will be played to work on how they move, where they live, how they live and other important characteristics. 
Then there will be a guided tour of the Zoo, in which explanations about the animals will continue.

Suggestions about activities to do after the We Work by Projects Workshop at the Zoo:

 

Natural and social sciences area:

  • Prepare activity sheets for the animals studied.
  • Group animals together according to where they live: in the water, on land or in the air.

 

Oral and written expression:

  • Create stories about the animals studied.
  • Tell stories about the animals studied.

 

Art:

  • Paint the animal or animals studied.

 

Body expression:

  • Play games imitating the sounds and/or movements in which the children have to show what they learned.

 

Evaluation of learning obtained:

  • Create index cards for the animals studied on which the students have to put the parts of their bodies, what they eat, what element they live in and how they move

OBJECTIVES
With respect to knowledge, facts and ideas:

  • Know the parts of the body of the animal or animals studied.
  • Carefully observe the shapes and functions of the different body parts.
  • Recognise their suitable foods.
  • Study the type of external layer.
  • Distinguish how the animal moves / travels.
  • Introduction to the concept of wild animal.

With respect to procedures:

  • Learn to carefully observe the animal or animals studied.
  • Identify their suitable foods.
  • Notice how they move.

With respect to attitudes and values:

  •  Foster respect for animals through better knowledge of them.

Small group: 234 € (until 21 students) each additional student until 25, the price are 8,15 € for student. The free teachers

Big Group: 267 € (until 29 students) each additional student until 30, the price are 8,15 € for student. The free teachers

If you sign up for an educational activity with the Department of Education during the months of September, December, January or February, you will receive a 20% discount off the price. Further, if during these months you do the activity on a Monday or Tuesday, you will receive a 30% discount. (*)

(*) If you sign up for an activity with the Department of Education taking advantage of the promotion and it has to be cancelled due to an incident of force majeure, we will reschedule the activity another day, always with the same original conditions.
